You serve the saints and recite the name of God. You should think the Guru dearer to your mother, grandfather and brothers. There is no other generous person than Guru. Generous is the eighth type of meditation relating to the month of Kattak, which was performed by Arjun of Mahabharat. O man! You should perform worship under the guidance of Guru and you should renounce pride. If the man after renouncing the sexual desires, anger and pride, meditates, then he can know the secret of God. In such type of meditation, the devotee should absorb himself in the God in order to achieve oneness with Him. He should attain oneness with God like water and milk mixed together. O man! After renouncing your sinful deeds, you should recite the name of God, day and night. As a fish cannot live without water, like this a devotee cannot live without God. The bird chakvi, while wailing, waits for the night to go, o man! You should love God as bird chakor loves the moon and peacock loves clouds. O man! You should not forget the God as the calf cannot forget milk. As a beautiful woman feels happy on seeing her husband, like this you should be happy to see the God. In the month of Kattak, due to the kindness of God, all efforts of a man bear fruit. The devotee should drink the nectar of Guru’s feet, says Ravidass.

Happy Kattak (October-November) to all!

O God! You nourish all!! Please attach me to your holy feet. You prepare a rosary from the string of love and beads of Guru’s name and wear it around your neck. You feel happy after seeing a glimpse of Guru’s feet. O man! You get the chance to worship Guru, according to your destiny. You meditate on the Guru’s feet and renounce worldly attachment, love and affection. O disciple of Guru! This is the seventh type of disciple’s worship. The worship is being performed in the seventh month of the year is just like ruby-stone. The time will not wait for you; therefore, you start meditation just now. Otherwise you will have to repent later on. Only rare persons have performed such type of worship with every breath of their body. You should recite the name of God according to His orders. To obey Him is the supreme worship. To obey God’s orders is the supreme meditation. This is the real worship to be performed by a disciple. A servant of God’s servant can define such meditation. After achieving the spiritual and holy knowledge of God, a disciple attains wisdom, awareness and power of understating. Great Guru preaches that by reciting the name of God in the month of Assu, all desires of the disciple will be fulfilled. Ravidass says, a disciple should always worship the holy feet of his Guru.

You cannot save yourself from the transmigration of

soul without the help of Guru. The Guru will provide you the peace of mind.

Those who forget God and do not worship the feet of

Guru, their lives become shameful and useless.

They are floating in the middle of the ocean of existence.

They are not reaching either bank. Only those will swim across

the ocean of existence, who have adopted the feet of Guru in their mind.

O man! If you pay obeisance to the Guru’s feet, then you

will swim across the ocean of existence. You should be thankful

to the God, who has come to help you in the guise of your Guru.

This is the sixth type of meditation which a fortunate

disciple performs. After renouncing all other activities, he

surrenders himself to the feet of his Guru.

O man! Love the lotus feet of Guru devotedly and

renounce the charm of maya. The whole world is mortal.

The worship of Guru is immortal.

As a result of the virtuous actions performed by a man

during his last birth, his mind adopts renunciation. But the

man is entrapped in the worldly charms and enjoying a sound

sleep. By the grace of Guru, he can awake from his sleep.

Ravidass says, O man! You should not forget the lotus feet of Guru.

Jai Gurudev Ji

We have heard from time immemorial of Saints, prophets who devoted their lives to the service of humanity. So far, almost all such figures like Jesus Christ, Guru Ravidass Ji, came into this world and left for heavenly abode before “we” came on the scene. We revere them, worship them, admire them and use their lifestyle and guidance as a tool to live our own lives. There have been numerous figures in history who, in different religions, different geographies and environments sacrificed their whole lives to uphold the basic freedom that every human being should enjoy.

In the contemporary world, where we revere our saviours from the past, a personality with the name of Saint (Sant) Rama Nand Ji of Ravidassia Community, who walked amongst us, lived amongst us, sacrificed his whole life to uplift millions of downtrodden people in India. He wholeheartedly spread the mission of Guru Ravidass Ji across the world, and in his lifetime played a crucial role in establishing charitable hospitals, schools to serve the poor. He spent his every moment in life to devise ways to guide, love and serve others. His indefatigable spirit, untiring physical efforts and unique and energetic style of Kirtan (Religious Singing) to spread mission of Guru Ravidass Ji has been unmatchable. He finally sacrificed his life for the mission of humanity thus joining many others who walked the same path in history, for the sake of making world a better place to live.

Now is the time and chance to do our part by honouring Saint Rama Nand Ji.

Ravidassia Community of Toronto has teamed with Credit Valley Hospital Foundation, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada to dedicate a Patient Room as shown side, in honour of Saint Rama Nand Ji. The total cost of this project is approximately $25,000 Canadian Dollars. This noble cause will honour Saint Rama Nand Ji, and his life-long struggle to improve the lives of millions of untouchables in India and bring Ravidassia Community into mainstream.

Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha Ontario is a Registered Charitable organization in Canada. It is the only Ravidassia institution in the Province of Ontario. Our temple was established with the blessings of Ravidassia Worldwide Religious Head, Shri 108 Sant Niranjan Dass Ji and the Great Martyr Shri 108 Sant Rama Nand Ji of Dera Sachkhand Ballan, Jalandhar, Punjab, India. Temple is open to public from all walks of life and acts as a centre of community unity and worship.Since January 2010, according to diktats from Shri Guru Ravaidass Birthplace Temple, Seer Goverdhanpur, Varanasi, India, our ultimate place of worship, we adopted 'Amrit Bani Shri Guru Ravidass Ji' as our Holy Scriptures.

For more information about this noble cause and ways to donate, please visit www.santramanandjihonour.ca

Dhan Gurudev Ji

23rd July, Barsi of Shri 108 Sant Garib Dass Maharaj Ji

Shri 108 Sant Garib Dass Maharaj's Barsi, 23rd July.

Sant Garib Dass Ji became fourth GaddiNasheen of the Dera. He inherited a rich legacy of spirituality as well as social service to humanity from his predecessor saints of the Dera. He was born in the family of revered father Nanak Chand Ji and revered mother Har Kaur Ji at village JALBHEY near Adampur in district Jalandhar in 1925. Sant Niranjan Dass Ji was appointed as his assistant. He continued the activities of the Dera, started by Sant Sarwan Dass Ji, with greater fervour and devotion. He was a qualified vaid. He treated patients. Even those patients who were suffering from serious diseases were cured. He talked very little and always served the sangat. He used to say that speaking too much is not necessary in SEWA and SIMRAN. He first visited England in 1985 along with Sant Rama Nand Ji. The foundation stone of famous Guru Ravidass temple at Birmingham (U.K) was laid by him. It was also inaugurated by him. Foundation stone of many other Guru Ghars in India and abroad were laid by him. He blessed large number of foreign devotees with naam daan. He involved younger generation with Guru Ravidass Mission. He visited U.K. six times, America thrice and Canada once only. His greatest contribution to human welfare was setting up of Sant Sarwan Dass Charitable Hospital, at Koopur-Dhaypur (Kathar) in district Jalandhar dedicated to the memory of his Guru Sant Sarwan Dass Ji. Throughout his life he served patients. By establishing the hospital on 22nd October, 1982, he ensured care of the poor patients even after his death. Starting ‘Begumpura Shehar’ weekly was equally a great step in the direction of spreading Guru Ravidass Mission to the masses. He laid foundation stone of Sant Sarwan Dass Memorial Teaching Block at Guru Ravidass ITI College, Phagwara. He built a model Sarai for stay of the pilgrims in the Dera. A grand ‘Sant Sarwan Dass Memorial Gate’ was built jointly by Sangat of village BAL and the Dera by him on Jalandhar-Pathankot Road, Bal. He got it inaugurated from Sant Ishar Dass Ji, Gopal Nagar, Jalandhar, on 11th June 1994. On 11th June 1994 (the Barsi Smagam day of Sant Sarwan Dass Ji) he told the sangat that a big smagam will be held at Shri Guru Ravidass Janam Asthan Mandir, Varanasi in the end of June 1994, and that all should accompany him. This journey was undertaken by rail from 16th June to 23rd June 1994 in which many of his followers from foreign countries also participated. It was very hot and humid in Varanasi. When the sangat asked Maharaj Ji why he chose such a weather to undertake this pilgrimage, he replied that “I wanted to show you conditions under which we worked to construct this temple.” A hugely attended Dharmik Smagam was held on this occasion. Those people who were part of this trip will never forget this pilgrimage. Only one month after returning from Varanasi, he fell ill. He was admitted in a Jalandhar Hospital. He left for his heavenly abode on 23rd July 1994 at 2.55 PM. His body was kept for “Antim Darshan” in Sant Hari Dass Satsang Hall from 23rd to 25th July 1994 when he was cremated. Thousands of people bade him tearful farewell.

Jai Santan Di

The happiness prevails in every house and all sufferings run away. The yield of food grains increases. The growth of grass also increases for cows. The married women are happy; the widows are ignored and deserted. Worship the feet of Guru with devotion. You worship His feet by offering betel-leaf, betel-nut and flower. This is the fifth type of worship in which more and more attention is being paid on the worship and meditation of Guru with full faith. Do not worship any other idol, except Guru and God. “There is no difference between Guru and God”, says wise men. You worship the Guru’s feet with determination, you will attain happiness. “There is no one else on the earth like Guru”, wise saints know this fact. Ravidass says, one should always meditate on the feet of Guru.

But the true

happiness lies in reciting the name of God. There is no vice like avarice in the world.

O man! If you worship the God only then you can achieve His abode.

The noble men are serving the lotus feet of God.

Everybody living in this world wants to achieve the holy feet of God.

O man! If you meditate on Guru’s feet with

determination, all the twenty four hours, only then your innerself

will become pure and your all sins will be eliminated.

If you worship your Guru then all your sins will be

destroyed. Therefore, you can see the glimpse of Guru’s face

daily. With determination you should meditate on God then you will attain salvation.

O friend! The goddess of wealth maya becomes powerful

after meditating on the lotus feet of God. But after worshipping

the God, the maya assumes the unique power of the entire universe.

O man! Therefore, you worship Guru’s feet with full faith.

You should not meditate on any other demi-god except the

Guru. This is the tradition of meditation. The month of Harh

is peaceful for those who worship Guru with full devotion, says Ravidass.

11th June 2012 - 41st Barsi Satguru Sarwan Dass Maharaj Ji

Today marks the 41st Barsi of Shri 108 Sant Sarwan Dass Maharaj Ji

15th February 1895 - 11th June 1972

Saints appear on this earth to ferry the people from the sea of inaterialism by attaching them with ´´Naam’’ who had been detached by the circle of birth and death from the valuable gem. One such saint was Sant Sarwan Dass Ji who put his feet on this planet on feb. 15, 1895 in the lap of fortunate great mother, Shobhawanti in the house of Shri 108 Sant Pipal Dass Ji village Gill Patti in Bathinda district of Punjab. At he time of birth, s symbol of ´´Padam’’ was seen inscribed on the foot of Sant Sarwan Dass Ji to which many persons had seen at that time. The parents of Sant Sarwan Dass Ji were very pious and religious persons and every word uttered by Shri Pipal Dass Ji proved to be true. When Sant Sarwan Dass Ji was only five years old, his mother left this world and Sarwan Dass Ji was feeling depressed and sad. Sensing this, Sant Pipal Dass Ji left Gill Patti along with Sant Sarwan Dass Ji and after touring many places reached village Ballan in Jalandhar. The elder brother of Sant Sarwan Dass Ji was Sant Sewa Dass ji who stayed at the village. The touch of feel of Sant Sarwan Dass Ji made sancto-sanctorum the village Bal, Raipur and Sarmastpur. There were ´´green dake trees’’ at village Ballan which attracted Sant Sarwan Dass Ji most. The villagers of Ballan gave much love and regard to him and due to this only Sant Sarwan Dass Ji requested his father to take him back to Ballan from Piplanwala as the ´´green dake trees’’ lured him most. When Sant Pipal Dass ji along with his son came back to Ballan, the sangat of the village Ballan gave the mud-roofed house to them for their permanent residence. Now the people started respecting Sant Sarwan Dass Ji more and here he started worshipping Almighty in the terrific forest lying in the west of Ballan where deer in groups at daytime and jackles at night strolled freely and the residents had named this place as ´´jackels home’’. Sant Sarwan Dass Ji had also experienced ´´Ang Katti Yog’’ there during worship and many residents of Ballan village had seen this wonderful miracle. At night Sant Sarwan Dass ji preferred to stay at village where in the morning he used to deliver religious discourses to the sangat. Impressed by spiritual enlightenment of Sant Sarwan Dass Ji, one farmer named Shri Hazara Singh of Ballan donated on kanal land to Sant ji’s cottage. Sant Sarwan Dass Ji got his early education from his father and go Sanskrit education from Sant Kartanand ji of Kishangarh. Guru ji was a great Hindi, Punjabi and Sanskrit scholar and he wrote one poem which is as under-

He came in Kashi, and saved Nagar Mal,

by breaking the shackles of materialism

He preached the message of unity,

and revived the soulless India.

He broke the walls of rich and poor,

high and low, and dismissed the casteism in all shapes,

and, asked, who, except Satguru Ravidass Ji,

had tied together the scattered humanity in the four ages.

Sant Sarwan Dass Ji got Naam from Sant Harnam Dass Ji who pronounced that the former had excelled him spiritual and would be a great sant in the coming days. First Sant Sarwan Dass Ji made a hut. Than a small room and a verandah were annexed. Sant Sarwan Dass Ji used to worship Almightly. When Sant Pipal Dass ji passed away on 1st Navrata in 1927, the entire responsibility of ferrying the human beings from this vicious circle of worldly desires has fallen on Sant Sarwan Dass Ji. In the Dera, Sant Sarwan Dass Ji started a school where he used to teach Guru Granth Sahib & Punjabi to the Children. Every Sunday the kheer and sweet cakes were prepared and offered to Sangat and Children. Many Children who got education from Sant Sarwan Dass ji proved successful pathies. Sant Sarwan Dass Ji used to say that those parents were enemies of their own children who did not have them educated. He also preached that the poor should abstain from drug addiction and superstitions and lead honest & hard working life. Besides, have amenity preached that all human must worship Almighty to get their souls purged from vilification of social evils and ill. Whoever invited Dera. Sant Sarwan Dass Ji persuaded him to NAAM SIMRAN and satsang. When he finished the satsang he used to say that their presence had been marked in the darbar of Almighty. He respected the saints who visited the Dera and used to exchange his views on the spiritually with them. Whenever he found time tried to meet spiritually enlightened souls & one such visit was to Dera Beas to meet Sant Sarwan Dass Ji. Sant Sarwan Dass Ji was delivering religious discourses to the sangat. When they saw Sant Sarwan Dass Ji stood up from his bed, showed proper saintly regards to Sant Sarwan Dass Ji and politely offered him to take seat toward head of his bed. Both great saints shared their spiritual delightful experiences fro long hours. Such was loving thirst of Sant Sarwan Dass Ji for spiritually elevated saints. Sant Sarwan Dass Ji was always concerned for social cause. When in 1932 Poona Pact was implemented by dint of hard work of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar the mission of the dalits, the fast unto death of Sh. Mangoo Ram Magowalia was discontinued by serving juice to the faster from sacred hand of Sant Sarwan Dass Ji During his visit to Delhi in 1948 at the request of Giani Bishna Ram, Sh. Faquir Singh, Sh. Swaran Singh, Sh. Niranjan Singh Hothi, Sh. Puran Singh of Beas Pind, Sh. Bhagat Singh & Sh. Nama Ram Dihana, Sant Sarwan Dass Ji daily used to deliver religious sermons at the residences of devotees, and during his stay at Delhi, he along with Giani Bishna Ram, went to meet Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the prophet of humanity. Dr. Sahib showed great respect to Sant Sarwan Dass Ji’s glowing personality and views. In 1952 Dr. Ambedkar had visited Punjab. Sant Sarwan Dass Ji could not meet him personally due to some reasons but wrote a very impressive letter. Dr. Sahib, you are a great son of community. March ahead for welfare of community & success will your feet and people will proud of you. Click here to learn more
